Duke Ellington
Original acrylic painting by Keith Hemsley
About the painting
This atmospheric portrait captures the legendary Duke Ellington seated at his piano, his distinctive silhouette dramatically illuminated by a warm golden light. The striking contrast between deep shadows and the glowing background creates a sense of mystery and theatrical elegance, evoking the smoky jazz clubs and concert stages of another era.
With its bold, simplified shapes and expressive use of light, the painting celebrates the commanding presence, creativity and musical genius of one of jazz's most influential figures. A quiet yet powerful tribute to a true master of his craft.
