About the painting
This striking portrait captures the legendary singer and pianist Nina Simone in a moment of quiet intensity at the microphone. Seen in profile against a deep black background, her poised expression conveys the dignity, strength and unmistakable presence that defined her performances. Warm tones of copper, terracotta and soft violet bring depth to her features, while the patterned headwrap and bold white earrings add elegance and visual contrast.
The dramatic lighting and confident brushwork create an intimate yet powerful composition, celebrating the extraordinary voice, individuality and enduring spirit of one of music's most influential artists.
